One of the main reasons we took our 3 week trip was to see my oldest sister and her hubby out in Seattle! They've lived there for 25 years and we've been out a few times, but the boys had never been. One thing about my sister is she is the most incredible host. We showed up to gift bags on our beds, the use of their 2 bedrooms while they scooted down to the basement, and a pantry packed full of everyone's favorite snacks. This was a multi day stay, so you are in for a longer post here!
Day 1: We drove in from Coeur d'Alene with a stop at Snoqualmie Falls. We were tired, but still had enough energy to venture out to Alki Beach in West Seattle. The boys ran along the beach and harvested mussels. M really wanted to take them home and eat them, so we boiled him and let him have at it. He said they were good, and E tried a few. Crazy. My brother in law treated us to home smoked brisket and challenged the boys to some video games which was the perfect end to a long travel day.

Day 2: We spent the day recovering from our drive, snuggling Baby T and of course stick battling. Roro (my sister) took us to Lincoln park for a hike and to see an incredible troll sculpture. Bruunidun, the troll, is part of the Northwest Trolls Way of the Bird King. The things people can create are just incredible. M enjoyed pretending to battle the troll. Both boys loved the picturesque swings that looked out onto the bay and spend a good chunk of time counting the ferries that floated by. E spent the day touring the Microsoft Campus with UW (my brother in law) playing Xbox, typing on computers, etcetera, etcetera.

Day 3: We spent the day at Pike Place Market watching the fishmongers toss fish, shopping for all the goodies like beef tallow moisturizers, souvenir stickers, and fresh cut flowers. The boys rode the carousel and and played carnival games. We visited the gum wall (ew) and E took the boys on ride back across the sound on the water taxi! The water taxi was the highlight of the boys that day. Not pictured is an afternoon of crafting in Roro's basement and an amazing home cooked dinner of local caught salmon which will forever be better than any salmon I can make myself!
Day 4-5: The Pacific Science Center was on the agenda for Day 4. Turns out it was cheaper to buy an Iowa Science Center pass for the year and use it through reciprocity than pay for our family to visit for a day. That pass came in handy when the boys later went to the Flight Museum on Day 5. It was a boys only trip, so no pics were snapped.
Day 6: This was our last full day in Seattle and we made the most of it with a long walk to get tea, see the neighborhood heron rookery and visit to a local playground. The herons were beautiful, and X found the funniest little trash cans at a neighbor's house. He had to test them out, and wanted them on his Christmas list. Later we headed to the Ballard Locks to see if the salmon were spawning. We didn't sight any salmon (too early), but we did get to see how the locks work as a boat passed through which was pretty incredible. We ended the day with some front yard football and dinner at Ghostfish Brewing. Ghostfish serves both gluten free beer and gluten free fish and chips! Highly recommed for any gf foodies who visit the Seattle area.

The next morning we gave Roro and UW big hugs and snuggles then hit the road to see Mt. Rainier. Jokes on us that it was too overcast to see the volcano and they were requiring all vehicles to carry tire chains. We decided to move on to our next destination rather than rent chains and pray the cloud cover cleared by the time we drove higher up into the National Park. The timing of our trip (spring closures, 3 month old, debatable weather) wasn't necessarily the best for National Parks visits, but I am so thankful we visited when we could and were able to spend a week with family in Seattle!
