St. Petersburg Pier

This post is a long time coming. I’ve been struggling to motivate myself to find and edit the pictures to post! We’re already gearing up to move to our next location and I cannot wait. The 1 bedroom apartment and traffic here in Florida have really worn on me. The beach is wonderful, and there are so many fun parks here we will miss, but we’re extremely excited about our next place!

St Pete’s Pier became one of our favorite places to visit. There are so many things to do, parking is easy at the right time of day, and the boys love it. There is something to do for everyone in the family. Our first visit, we spent the majority of our time at the playground which is probably the best in the area. It has a fun sunken ship theme with a wooden octopus and the tallest slide. There is also a spray ground nearby which is just fountains and great for a quick way to cool off.

On our second visit here, we took RoRo and UW to the Tampa Baywatch Center and explored the various animals and interactive displays. I love exposing the boys to lessons about keeping ecosystems healthy and the roles that humans and all the animals play. We were able to hear a lesson about seahorses which are one of the coolest fish to watch in the tank. Then, everyone had a turn at the touch tank feeling live urchins, starfish, and hermit crabs. X's favorite was the interactive sand display where you can push the sand around to find treasure.

At the end of the pier is a tower of restaurants and a gift shop. There is a tram you can ride to and from the end because it is quite a trek! There is also a spot to fish at the end of the pier, and the pelicans like to hang out there looking for an easy snack. The coffee shop here has gluten free goodies, so we may have to stop back by there for a snack in the future.

We finished our visit with a trip to the small beach area here. It is perfect for young kids because there are minimal waves and it is very shallow. This is the bay side of the peninsula, so the water is calm and brackish which means a mix of saltwater and freshwater. The manatees love this area, and we saw one floating along while we stood on the pier. We found hermit crabs and clams while swimming and I think RoRo really wanted to keep some of the tiny ones as pets!

Head over to the Mote Aquarium post to find out where we are going next!
