Dinosaur Park
Our first adventure apart from unpacking the apartment in Rapid City, was a trip to the Dinosaur Park. It is at one of the higher points in the city on a road aptly named Skyline Drive. This is a GREAT stop for kids. It is totally free, burns energy and the kids can climb on the sculptures. There isn't much shade, so make sure to build up your sun tolerance or cover up. You'll see in the pictures that there are a significant amount of stairs to climb, so this is not stroller friendly. X made me carry his 32lb self all over the park. From the highest point of the park, you will see incredible views for 100 miles! There is a small hiking trail up top that you can wind around. It was doable for me and the boys. Down below they have a gift shop with items for a dollar and a sluicing station that you can purchase a bag of sand filled with fun finds for less than $10. I had the boys split a bag and it was plenty for them both. They also have plenty to eat in the gift shop if you forget to pack your lunch! We've gotten in the habit of packing a lunch every we go. We always end up staying out longer than we expected and it majorly comes in handy. You can snag a free bag of popcorn if you pick up their travel brochure at another attraction. Remember to pack your quarters if your kiddos want to ride the old school motorized car. A generous little girl gave us 50 cents for the boys to ride.
