Downtown Rapid and Paddleboating
We celebrated our lack of a first day of school and EZ’s day off with a paddle boating trip at Canyon Lake. EZ got quite the leg workout for 3/4 of the trip while I made sure X didn’t tip overboard. It’s pretty shallow and we had life jackets on, but the water is chilly and I don’t think he would’ve been very happy about that! We saw a couple turtles, cranes, osprey, turkey vultures, a muskrat, and plenty of geese and ducks getting their breakfast.
Next stop was was Rushmore Lion’s park to dip our feet in the creek, search for apples (found one), and drop off a bag of toys. The boys found pencils and toys in this little basket in the trees when playing shop the other day, so we wanted to contribute and downsize some of our toy stash.
Then…big news!!! X pooped in the potty, TMI? Well it warranted a family celebration so we headed to the Silver Lining Creamery in downtown Rapid City for ice cream! We of course had to stop in Who’s Toy House next door to the ice cream shop on our way out. There is also a spray ground here, but it was not on today. Rapid’s downtown area is adorable and we’ve been to a few of their restaurants. Firehouse Brewing Company has good bbq and burgers. Tally’s had great breakfast and even had gluten free pancakes (ihop’s gf pancakes are better, but the rest of the food was fantastic). We snuck back home for naps before an afternoon thunderstorm rolled in. It’s so crazy how you can see it coming for miles here and how different the weather can be due to the mountains depending on where you are.
